Mary Jewell Brown, 94, of Benton, died Thursday, May 3, 2012. She was born May 15, 1917 in Bauxite to Osroe and Fleeta Akins. Mrs. Brown was retired from Benton Public Schools where she taught third grade at Angie Grant Elementary School before becoming a counselor at West Side Junior High. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Benton. In leisure time she enjoyed gospel music, antiques and oil painting. She practiced disciplines of industry, determination, hard work and frugality. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 59 years, Bernard Arkel Brown; son, Dwight Brown; three sisters, Dorothy, Melba and Violet Jean.

Survivors include daughter, Wanda Sue Mansfield and husband James; son, Gary A. Brown and wife Theresa; daughter-in-law, Michelle Brown all of Benton; four grandchildren, Renee Dickins, Michael Brown both of Little Rock; Michelle Fincher of Fairfax, Virginia and Kevin Mansfield of Benton; four great-grandchildren, Brooke Parker, Creighton Parker, Emily Fincher and David Fincher and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 6 at Ashby Funeral Home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 7 at Ashby Funeral Home. Dr. Rick Grant will be officiating.
