Bob Lee Asher, age 68, of Benton died Sunday May 20, 2012 at his home. He was born April 22, 1944 in Cherokee City, Arkansas. Bob was a retired lineman for the City of Benton Utilities with 28 years of service, and a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olen Earl and Geneva Mae Stevens Asher; two brothers, Eugene Asher and Dean Asher; sister, Ida Perry and two grandchildren.
Bob grew up in the woods hauling pulp wood for the family business. With the knowledge he gained, he eventually built his own house over a period of 28 years. He loved his family and treasured spending time with his grandchildren. Bob enjoyed working for the city and would always lend a hand to help someone in need. One of his greatest passions was spending time with his family on Degray Lake.
Survivors: sons, Robert Asher, Amity and Gregg Asher, Benton; daughter, Melissa Jo Sword, Benton; brothers, Donnie L. Asher, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Kenneth Asher, Senatobia, Mississippi and Gary Dale Asher, Tulsa, Oklahoma; sisters, Ruby Freeman, Hot Springs and Millie Minker, Bartlesville, Oklahoma and eight grandchildren. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Ashby Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday at Ashby’s with burial at Ten Mile Cemetery.
